There is a revolution coming in mining and heavy equipment, with mined materials now known to be critical for the rapidly growing battery-electric vehicle market, and at the same time, higher energy prices and stringent noise and emissions regulations are making electrification of heavy equipment itself ever more attractive. Whether you design traditional excavators powered by diesel or diesel-hybrid systems or a new line of fully electric excavators, starting with an accurate system design can speed up your development process. Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) enables the modeling of all necessary components and their interactions to predict and optimize performance for a given set of duty cycles.
This live webinar will describe the use of Siemens Simcenter Amesim for MBSE modeling of a diesel-powered hydraulic excavator. The “power, energy, activity” tool in Amesim will be demonstrated on the excavator to pinpoint the components with the highest energy losses. Finally, the hydraulic swing motor will be replaced with an electric motor, the power system will be hybridized, and fuel consumption will be compared to the original diesel excavator. The webinar will wrap up with discussion of how MBSE modeling can be applied to all industrial and heavy equipment, for both on-road and off-road applications.
