LOUISVILLE, Colo., September 8, 2020 – In a socially distanced presentation ceremony at the headquarters of Sierra Nevada Corporation’s (SNC) Space Systems business area in Louisville, Colorado, ATA Engineering was recognized with SNC’s Small Business Excellence Award and announced as SNC’s 2019 Small Business Service Provider of the Year.
The award was presented by former NASA Space Shuttle commander and retired USAF pilot Steve Lindsey, now senior vice president of strategy for SNC’s Space Systems business area, and received on behalf of ATA by Mr. Elliot Haag, ATA’s Director of Business Development responsible for coordinating ATA’s support of the Dream Chaser® spaceplane program. Upon receiving the award, Mr. Haag stated, “We are grateful for the opportunities to work alongside SNC’s team of mission-focused engineers, and I am personally proud to work with colleagues who strive to delight our customers every day through technically excellent work. We are excited to watch Dream Chaser hardware come together and can’t wait to see it fly.”
ATA Engineering was selected for the award based on the quality and scale of support provided to the Dream Chaser program throughout its development under NASA’s Commercial Resupply Service 2 (CRS-2) contract. This included performing system-level and component-level simulations to ensure that Dream Chaser designs would meet NASA requirements, developing custom software tools to manage immense amounts of engineering data and enable efficient design assessments, and providing SNC engineers with mentoring, formal software training, and technology transfer to strengthen the capabilities of the SNC team for years to come.
