Building Tomorrow’s Engineers: ATA’s Comprehensive Co-op Program

SAN DIEGO, Calif., September 26, 2024 – ATA Engineering believes that real-world experience is key to building a successful engineering career. That is why the company has developed a comprehensive co-op and internship program designed to provide students with the hands-on skills and practical knowledge needed to thrive in this industry. Through this program, aspiring engineers gain invaluable experience while forging lasting and impactful connections. You can learn more about ATA’s co-op program here.

One co-op success story is highlighted by Northeastern College of Engineering and their feature on Jonathan Gray, ATA employee-owner and recipient of the 2024 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship. Mr. Gray is an NSF Graduate Research Fellow and ATA Engineering project engineer pursuing a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles. Jonathan’s first co-op session at ATA was a pivotal step in shaping his career. Unlike many co-op programs, ATA offers extended sessions that allow students to immerse themselves in the company’s work and culture. Jonathan’s co-op experience involved hands-on structural analysis for spacecraft and launch vehicles, where he applied classroom knowledge, such as finite element analysis, to real-world projects. Connecting with the ATA team and gaining valuable technical knowledge eventually led Jonathan to a full-time position where he continues to work on impactful projects that fuel his passion.

This fall, throughout September and October, students can connect with ATA staff at various career fairs and recruitment events across the country. Don’t miss the chance to learn more about how ATA’s co-op program can be a vital stepping stone in your engineering career.

Inaugural Mary Baker Industry Achievement Award Presented to Diana Trujillo at IDETC-CIE

WASHINGTON, D.C., August 27, 2024 – ATA Engineering is thrilled to congratulate Ms. Diana Trujillo as the first-ever recipient of the Mary Baker Industry Achievement Award. The award was established by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Technical Committee on Vibration and Sound (TCVS) to honor the legacy of the late Dr. Mary Baker. In naming the award for Mary, whose incredible trailblazing career involved the founding of ATA Engineering over two decades ago, ASME/TCVS seeks to recognize engineering professionals in industry who exemplify her spirit of innovation, originality, and meaningful impact in their work. ATA’s president, Josh Davis, had the honor of introducing Ms. Trujillo’s keynote lecture and presentation of the award this afternoon at the International Design Engineering Technical Conference (IDETC-CIE) 2024.

The inaugural recipient, Diana Trujillo, is a Flight Director at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, where she leads human spaceflight missions, including operations of the International Space Station, Artemis missions, and key orbital vehicle flights. As NASA’s 108th Flight Director and the first born in a Spanish-speaking country, Trujillo previously played pivotal roles in Mars missions, including Curiosity, Perseverance, and Ingenuity.

Born in Colombia, Ms. Trujillo immigrated to the United States to pursue her dream of working at NASA. She earned a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and contributed to developing the Cygnus cargo spacecraft at Orbital Sciences. Diana also created NASA’s first Spanish-language broadcast, #JuntosPerseveramos, and advocates for diversity in STEM. Her accomplishments have earned her numerous honors, including the Cruz de Boyacá, Colombia’s highest civilian award. Mr. Davis commented on the significance of the award: “I am deeply grateful that the ASME has dedicated this industry award to the memory of Mary Baker, an incredible engineer and wonderful human who impacted the lives of so many. And it is a privilege to be part of presenting the inaugural recognition to such a deserving and inspiring person as Diana.”

Congratulations again to Ms. Diana Trujillo for this outstanding achievement! Diana’s remarkable breadth of work and experience truly embody the spirit of this award, and we are proud to recognize her profound impact on this industry.
